Introducing the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500!

Last month, Ford revealed the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, MI. Powered by a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine, this rocket is capable of producing more than 700 horsepower and hitting a quarter mile time of less than 11 seconds -- making this the quickest-accelerating factory-built Mustang ever!

Ford says this model features the company's most powerful street-legal V8 engine, and fully expects some owners to take to legal drag strips to enjoy the beast's performance. However, the company also anticipates seeing the GT500 at HPDE events, taking on competitors like the BMW M3. That's why the GT500 features a specially-tuned version of the Magneride active damping system, allowing the vehicle to do much more than dash in a straight line. As Jim Owens, Marketing Manager for the Mustang, states, "To be at today’s pinnacle of performance, [the car] has to turn."

Purists may be dismayed by the fact that the GT500 won't come with a manual transmission, but the engineering team points out that the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is better for on-track driving thanks to the speed with which it can get the next gear and how smoothly it moves through the gears.
